Why enroll at SJEST?

Our school envisions to be a community of priest with lives centered on Jesus Christ, nourished by his words and sacraments. We are led by the spirit of God, guided by Mary, our mother, we, the seminarians of St. John the Evangelist School of Theology, commit to configure ourselves to Jesus Christ, the High Priest, to integrate human values in our priestly formation, to acquire and develop pastoral skills.

ADMISSION PROCESS

The priestly theological formation of Saint John the Evangelist School of Theology (SJEST) is open to those, who, duly recommended by a bishop or religious superior, have completed four years of philosophical studies or those who have, in the judgment of the faculty, gained a four-year college degree which can be considered equivalent. Seminarians or those studying for the priesthood are required to have studied at least twenty-five (25) units in philosophy to be admitted for theological formation. Since the whole theological program is a post-college course an applicant must present valid credentials of his having satisfactorily completed a college course.

SJEST, which is now a government-recognized institution, offers graduate programs in Theology and Pastoral Ministry, and admits into its roster lay persons interested to take up theological studies. As admission requirements, they are to have completed a college degree, preferably Philosophy, Theology or Humanities, or one with fifteen (15) units of Philosophy, and /or eighteen (18) units in Theology or other related subjects. 3. PERIODIC EXAMINATIONS

To receive credit for a course, a student must pass the examinations scheduled for that subject, or he must have satisfactorily complied with the assignments that may take the place of an examination.

As a rule, only midterm and final examinations are scheduled for all classes. Apart from these, professors may give quizzes, graded recitations, or require some paper work at their own discretion.

Any student who does not show up on the day of the examination, whether written or oral, is considered failed unless he has submitted beforehand a written excuse from the Office of the Dean or from the Rector.

Examinations are given according to the schedule prepared by the Academic Dean. Except for serious reasons, no examination may be anticipated or postponed.

a) In general, every attempt to answer examination questions by using unallowable means is regarded as cheating. Such means are, for instance, copying or asking questions from the neighbor, use of prepared notes or annotated textbooks (e.g. from Bibles), etc. Likewise any deliberate help towards answering text questions extended to a neighbor is considered as cheating.

b) Where these exist, only the examination books bearing the stamp of the seminary, and supplied by the Office of the Dean are to be used.

c) The student brings to the examination room a ball pen and other materials explicitly allowed by the respective professor.

d) During examinations, no student is allowed to leave the room without the explicit permission of the respective professor.

e) Questions for clarification are to be asked only from the supervising professor.

f) A student caught cheating automatically gets a failing mark (i.e., 70) for that examination, and will be considered for dismissal.
