On the afternoon of Wednesday dated January 23, 2019, two registered nurses arrived in the seminary to give an orientation on blood donation and informed the seminarians about the present status of the scarcity of blood in the region. They are working in the Blood Bank Regional Office located at the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center. They encouraged the seminarians to donate blood. They discussed the following: who can donate? Who receives? Steps on how to donate blood? What are the reasons why a person cannot donate blood? And other essential things related to blood donation.
On Friday, January 25, 2019, the scheduled bloodletting started at 10:30 in the morning at St. John the Evangelist School of Theology Audio-visual Room. This was spearheaded by the Blood Bank Regional Office Staff with Dr. Ernesto Miralles as their head. The activity ended at around 3:00 pm.
Out of 53 seminarians, only 13 seminarians were qualified to donate blood. Some were not ready to donate due to lack number of hours of sleep from the continuous practices for the upcoming Theolympics 2019. Some others had colds. Others did not pass the requirements. To sum it up, there were 4 bags of type “A”, 5 bags of type “O” and 4 bags of type “B”, collected from the seminary.
Hence, the SJEST Community is very much grateful to the Blood Bank Regional Office with their Blood Bank Physician Dr. Hector Simago for choosing the seminary to donate blood for the needy. Share blood, Save life!
